In 2019 we added a cone beam CT scanner to our technology list. This tool allows us to capture three-dimensional images of your hard tissue to be used in planning for surgeries, identifying pathology and in evaluating vertical fractures of teeth.
Cone Beam CT scans have quickly become the standard of care when it comes to placing dental implants and other surgical procedures, as they allow us to see where any vital structures are located so they can be avoided. Similarly it allows us to know how much and what your quality of bone is like – another key piece of information necessary prior to dental implant placement. In difficult implant placements we can even use this information for producing surgical guides to simplify the entire surgical process. The confidence and convenience that a state of the art CBCT scanner brings to our office is significant and hard to understate.
Although a CBCT scan does produce x-rays, its radiation dosage is extremely low. The radiation dose that the machine puts out is similar to the amount of radiation you acquire while on a single flight across the United States. We are judicious with the use of this technology as well as other x-rays used in our office and maintain a policy of minimum amount of films necessary to achieve our shared goal of your ultimate dental well being.
